At center stage of this month’s CREW Tampa Bay Member Spotlight is Katy Alderman. Katy serves as the Senior Vice President for Redstone Commercial, LLC, and she has been with the firm for nearly 16 years. As a third-party property and leasing company, Redstone is fully integrated in commercial real estate services and has been in business for over 30 years. Katy’s primary responsibilities within Redstone include overseeing property management and leasing of a prominent, institutionally owned, office and industrial portfolio based in Tampa. Redstone is a smaller, boutique-type company that believes in a hands-on management approach, individually tailored to each project. Katy enjoys all aspects of on-site property management, but she is especially fond of facilitating and maintaining excellent, long-term client relationships.
Katy joined CREW almost three years ago. She was “lured in” after a very fun CREW Go Fish event (pun intended!), and she has been actively involved ever since. Currently, Katy is a member of the Sponsorship Committee and will become a Chair of Sponsorship for 2023. She appreciates the friendships, camaraderie, endless networking resources, member-to-member business relationships, as well as the small world connections and experiences she has gained since joining CREW. Redstone is a 2022 CREW Annual Sponsor and has already committed to the same sponsorship in 2023. The company has also been a Grand Slam Sponsor for CREW’s Go Fish event since 2021 and will sponsor that event again next year.
Born and raised in Tampa, Katy got her start in commercial real estate when she moved to New York after high school. She worked with Cushman & Wakefield at the Chrysler Building in New York City and found that the commercial real estate industry was definitely her calling! She moved back to Tampa, became an assistant property manager, and by working hard, she earned her way within the industry to her current senior vice president role--paving the way for others as the first female promoted to this role at Redstone. Katy believes that success does not come from titles; she defines success as a feeling of accomplishment. Katy prides herself on being proactive, adaptable, always open to learning, and consistently doing what it takes to get the job done. She has a strong work ethic, is a true problem solver, and her inspiration comes from helping others.
In addition to CREW, Katy enjoys volunteering with various, local organizations. She is a member of the Westshore Alliance, the 2022/2023 President of the Ridgewood Park Civic Association, and she continues to volunteer on the Tampa Theatre’s Winefest Committee, previously serving as chair for “La Dolce Vino,” helping to raise necessary funds for artistic and educational programs.
A couple of fun facts that many people may not know… Although she is not painting as much as she used to, Katy is an accomplished artist. She created a 4’ x 6’ acrylic painting, titled “Flight 22 is off to Honolulu,” that was displayed at the Tampa International Airport as part of an Outdoor Arts Foundation exhibit. Katy also made her acting debut as an extra on the set of a Hulk Hogan television series called “Thunder in Paradise” that was filmed in Orlando.
When asked about a favorite quote, Katy recited one by a famous author, Howard R. Garis: “And half the fun of nearly everything, you know, is thinking about it beforehand, or afterward.” This quote is quite fitting as Katy enjoys planning various travels, tours, and excursions replete with unique arts, fabulous fare, and distinct culture. Among many other foreign destinations, Katy has traveled to Spain, Argentina, Croatia, and she has hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru. She loves exotic places and enjoys learning about various customs, traditional foods, and cultures throughout these destinations. While at home, Katy likes spending time walking through the Tampa Riverfront, and enjoys the parks in downtown, near her home.
